What to Know About SF City Hall Weddings

  • Civil ceremony reservations can be made 90 days from your desired date. You must get a CA marriage license within 90 days of the date of your ceremony (they expire after that and the process and fee will need to be repeated). Marriage licenses cost $116, and you can apply online.

  • To get married at SF City Hall by a commissioner from the Office of the County Clerk, the cost is 98$. Ceremony appointments are available every half hour between 9 am and 3:30 pm Mon-Fri. Up to 6 guests are allowed, (including me). For a Public Marriage Ceremony, you must have 1 witness present, for a Confidential Marriage Ceremony, no witnesses are required.

  • Bring your marriage license on the day of your ceremony. If your marriage license appointment is on the same day as the ceremony, make sure to schedule the appointment no less than 30 minutes before.

    Don’t forget to bring your ID or legal government-issued photo ID! Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment and check in at the Information Desk located in Room 168. You will receive a ticketed number.

  • The ceremony location will be picked by the commissioner and take place either in the rotunda or in a private ceremony room. Private one-hour weddings on the Mayor’s Balcony or a Fourth Floor Gallery are available to rent for $1,000 Mon-Fri 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. You can also book a two-hour wedding on the Grand Staircase of the Rotunda on Saturdays for $5,000.

  • Parking garages are available within walking distance of City Hall. The closet garages are located on McAllister Street and Polk Street (part of Civic Center Plaza Garage), and at Grove Street and Gough Street (part of the Performing Arts Garage). Parking availability is limited, and you should also expect to pay for parking by the hour
